Despite his young age, Emil Bø has made his mark across various areas, ranging from playing trombone in well-known pop bands at major festivals to delivering remarkable solo concerts. Bø explores his instrument to its extremes and is constantly in pursuit of the different sounds and tones that can be produced from the trombone.
He travels around Europe playing with a variety of bands, and in 2023 he received the talent prize from Oslo Jazzfestival. His compositions are inspired by the absurdities of everyday life and strange expectations about what should be considered normal, combining graphic scores where traditional riffs open up possibilities for explosive and expressive melodies.
Beyond his solo work, Bø collaborates across the experimental jazz landscape. He's part of ükya, a trio of young Norwegian musicians investigating connections between just intonation, European art music, minimalism, and improvisational music, creating expression through open forms that combine freedom and structure in energetic and attentive interplay.
